Bible Society of Burundi is running Trauma Healing and Reconciliation project which consist of equipping local churches to run their own Trauma Healing ministry. These churches in turn reach out to their communities and support people dealing with the experience of trauma. This project, which began in 2012, is using a new improved curriculum based on Bible Society’s experience with trauma healing, which is suitable for different kinds of trauma as well as different age groups.
This project is funded by the Norwegian and American Bible Societies. The project has implemented three modules: trauma healing classic (for adults), trauma healing Children and Trauma healing audio. The project is working to implement Adolescents/Youth trauma healing module, this category of people is a concern for Bible Society of Burundi as youths are often on the forefront of violent conflict that eventually leaves behind a trail of traumatic experiences on both the perpetrators and victims. The module will be introduced in the Juvenile Detention Centers too, as the prisons’ management instisted as they are many youths therein.
The beneficiaries of this project are leaders and members of churches, leaders and members of targeted institutions such as the Burundi National Defense Force (Army), Burundi National Police, SOS Children’s Villages, civil society organizations of Batwa minority and of People living with disability.
According to the results of the final external evaluations conducted in June 2022, the project has contributed very significantly to the healing of trauma and to national reconciliation in the country. However, it should be noted that, even if the project has national coverage, the number of beneficiaries already affected remains very small compared to the number of people who have experienced traumatic events in all over the country and who need to be assisted.
In addition, Bible Society of Burundi is in discussion with Truth and Reconciliation Commission to present Trauma Healing module so it could be used as one of the approaches in its phase of reconciliation. This will be a great impact and milestone contribution toward the project main goal “A healed and reconciled Burundi”.

“So, then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17 (NKV)
Vision Statement:
“A body of Christ united together in harmony of faith and who are disciples for Jesus Christ.”
Mission Statement:
“To put every available translation of the New Testament in audio form so that everyone might have a chance to hear the Word of Good News in His or her heart language and so develop Faith in Jesus Christ.”
FCBH is a Scripture listening program that brings together a group of people in a local church, a community, a language group, a literacy class, a group of individuals, or a family to listen to a portion of the audio Bible in their mother tongue. A consistent regular and continuous listening of the Bible on the proclaimer would enable one to go through the entire New Testament, thereby being exposed to the message of Christ and what is involved in the Christian faith. The emphasis, which is on group listening and discussion, is to allow everyone’s questions to be answered and doubts about God’s word cleared.
Bible Society has in the past provided the Holy Scriptures mainly in print to the people in Burundi. However not everyone is literate enough to read it. To some the Holy Bible is still a closed book because of visual challenges, poverty and can’t afford a copy and others because of limited time for Bible Study due to a lot of commitments and business.
FCBH project comes to make the above categories of people engage with God’s Word.
End to End Program
End to End is a free Bible distribution program. The objective of the program is to give Bibles to Christian members of listening groups of the FCBH (Faith Comes by Hearing) program who have given their lives to Christ but do not have the financial capacity to get a copy of the Bible. Those who receive Bibles are encouraged to read the Word of God even outside of listening sessions.
Adult Literacy Program
The Bible Society of Burundi supports local Churches in Adult Literacy by providing them with materials and a program for literacy classes. The Bible Society of Burundi trains and equips the monitors facilitators, who will then lead the Literacy courses in their respective Churches.
